Artist Talk and Artist of the Month at Vine Cafe and Market in Douglasville, GA

Butterflies are dive bombing my stomach today. If I could only get them to fly in formation! Why? Tonight I’ll be participating in an “Artist Talk” at the Vine Cafe and Market in downtown Douglasville. It’s a first for me.

A few weeks ago I was invited to exhibit a few pieces of my art work at the Vine Cafe by co-founder Karen Howard. Each month she features a different local artist in her shop. She has installed a museum hanging system on one wall where an artist may exhibit 10 - 12 small to mid-size works and offer them for sale. During the month, the artist is invited for a reception and “Artist Talk” on a Friday evening. It just so happens that tonight - Friday, September 21, 2018, is the night for my talk.

The Vine Cafe and Market is a farm-to-table restaurant specializing in healthy multicultural dishes. According to their website: “The vision of the Vine is clear: to establish a quick service restaurant that provides fresh tasting healthy cuisine. Located in the heart of downtown Douglasville, our mission is to bring a raw and unique taste to the locals of Douglasville.”

Karen has a deep love of the artists and their work. That is evident by her featuring an artist each month in her cafe. When I spoke with her, she was effusive in expressing her support of local artists. The Vine Cafe is an intimate setting - including a fireplace! - for exhibiting artwork. Nestled alongside the larger Irish Bred Pub–among the old downtown Douglasville “Main Street” shops–it’s a cozy setting for eating healthy food and admiring the arts.

I chose a few of my smaller oil paintings - mostly still lifes and landscapes. A couple of the paintings are acrylic. For the still life paintings, my son-in-law, Eric McGrew (who is also an artist), and I made rustic frames sort of in the old farmhouse tradition. One of the paintings has already sold, and I’ve added another painting to the exhibit to replace it.

If you can stop by and say “Hi!” at the Vine Cafe tonight at 6:30 PM. I’m still sorting out my thoughts as to what I’ll say, but I’ll be glad to answer any questions you have about my art, or art making in general.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to Karen Howard for inviting me to exhibit my work in her beautiful cafe!

I do like seeing these!
